I fell back asleep and had an absolutely horrid nightmare; I was heading to Pearl House on a sunny winter afternoon, and suddenly the landscape got warped and I ended up on a highway with cars speeding. I had to run, and someone started running after me.
I ran into a construction site, and one of the buildings exploded and a chainsaw- wielding maniac started following me. I ended up in a mental hospital, where a doctor who was an ex- Nazi diagnosed me with “female hysteria”.
I woke up from the nightmare the way I usually wake; I lied in my bed and thought sadly “Well, I would have preferred not to have a nightmare…” Then I fell back asleep again, and had a better dream; I studied in a college, which was a vast cubistic building where people danced and sang and played instruments, I befriended a young black girl and we went to this huge luxurious bathroom where we washed each other’s hair.
Then the girl looked at me and said: “I’m giving you a choice. You can either wake up and face the harsh reality, or then you can stay asleep forever and join us in the land of dreams where you can always have fun”. Well, that could be classified as a kind of a “cake or death” question.
I woke up at five o’clock, I saw black squiggly lines dancing in front of my eyes and heard a noise that reminded me of a steaming water kettle.
I turned on my laptop and logged in to the online bank service, and what do you know, I had received the weekly 85 euros. I fell back into healthy, drowsy sleep, and got up again at half past eleven o’clock in the morning.
I logged in to the online bank service again, paid the monthly bank fees and renewed the Microsoft Office order for one month.
I took my morning medicine and dressed up and dabbed basic lotion on my face, and soon I was on the train on my way to east.
I visited the bank to withdraw the rest of the money. I was craving for those chocolate pralines I had enjoyed on New Year’s Eve, but the nearest shopping center didn’t stock them.
I took a train back to my own hometown, and went to the department store. I bought a week’s worth of canned soup and microwaveable meals, cheese, milk, and rye bread. I also bought six Valentine’s day cards, those that I am going to send to my friends outside Finland. I have this weird policy when it comes to seasonal cards, like Christmas and Valentine’s day; first I buy the cards for my foreign friends, because it will take longer for them to be mailed overseas. Then I buy the Finnish cards.
I went back home, put the groceries into the fridge, and warmed myself a microwaveable meal. I am glad that these days microwaveable meals are just as nutritious as home- made meals.
I was feeling a bit lost between one moment and another. I called my favourite nail salon and made an appointment for a manicure. I also called the janitor and told him that my balcony door is stuck, he told me that he will check it tomorrow.
I decided to go see my mother; I called her and asked if I can come over, she said it’s alright.
I had to take a bus, it was slippery and snowy and cold outside.
Once at my parents’ home, I had some snack and drank coffee, and later in the evening I went back to my own home.
I hung out in the shopping mall until the smaller shops were closed. I went back home, watched some Doctor Who episodes on DVD, and then I went to bed.
